Question: Our roof is leaking and the water is draining through several lighting fixtures. What needs to be done; replace fixtures, wiring or just let everything "dry"?

Answer: Hi Laurie, Have you already turned off the power to any areas that got wet? If not, that should be your first step. Any circuit breakers, ground fault interrupters, or fuses that got wet will definitely need to be replaced. There's a chance that your fixtures can be saved, but what you really need is a professional electrician's opinion. He or she can also disassemble, clean, dry, and reinstall your light fixtures for you. Electrical shock is such a scary thing that you'll want to make absolutely sure that everything is dry and safe to use before turning the power back on.
