Answer: Joel! According to the Code of Federal Regulations from the U.S. Department of Justice, you should plan on an opening of at least 32 inches when the door is opened to a 90 degree angle.

Answer: You'll also want to think about the turn radius within the room if you're outfitting the bathroom for a wheelchair. You want to make sure there is at least 60 inches by 60 inches of room to turn the chair around. Other considerations, which you may have thought of are grab bars in the shower and creating a smooth transition from the floor into the shower. Any seat in the shower should be 18 inches high and run the full depth of the stall if possible. (If there is a tub, you'll have to replace it). Check out a local home improvement store for ideas.
