Troubleshooting Refrigerators


Problems with your fridge may require the service of a professional, but before you make the call, check out some possible solutions to common unit ailments.

Problem: Unit doesn’t get cold enough
Might be caused by: Dirty condenser coils
Try this: Clean coils
- OR -
Might be caused by: Inferior door seal
Try this: Lubricate or replace gaskets as needed. If necessary, adjust hinges on door to repair sagging that may prevent a sealed closure

Problem: Refrigerator is off even though it is plugged in
Might be caused by: Tripped circuit or blown fuse
Try this: Reset breaker or replace fuse at breaker box. Also, check cord to see if it needs replacing. Check outlet to make sure it is not worn. If necessary, replace outlet.

Problem: Unit is noisy
Might be caused by: Dirty condenser coils
Try this: Clean coils
- OR -
Might be caused by: Unit not level
Try this: Adjust feet until unit is level
- OR -
Might be caused by: The drain pan vibrating
Try this: Clean pan and move it into a different position

Problem: Water leaks onto floor
Might be caused by: A damaged drain pan or drain hose
Try this: Remove pan and look for cracks; replace if needed. If pan looks fine, check drain hose
- OR -
Might be caused by: A clogged drain inside fridge
Try this: Clean the drain
