Weir

The weir is also called the skimmer weir. Like the skimmer itself, the weir moves in relation to the level of the water in the pool. This allows it to easily collect debris and dirt. The weir is used to shut off the skimmer system when you want to shut off you pool's pump. By having a door on the skimmer, no debris can float back out into your pool. When you need to clean your skimmer, the weir will prevent any water from flowing inside.
