Title of Question:

Recaulking Shower Stall That Cannot Be Taken Out Of Service!

Name: Rick  City: New York

Question: I live in an apartment with ONE bathroom. My wife and I both work, and, of course, need to shower daily. The floor seam that joins the floor with the raised saddle (for shower enclosure) is what is currently cracked. There was originally grout there, and when that started to crack, a contractor merely caulked over it. Now, both are deteriorating. While it's very obvious that there are gaps where there should be caulk/grout along this seam, I can see that there is still a contiguous line of grout behind the seam surface, so there appears to be watertight integrity. There are no loose tiles, either on the floor or the saddle, and no signs of leakage. Question: Since I can only take this shower out of commission for 48 hours tops, I've been told that caulking won't be feasible due to the possibility of water behind this seam inside the shower. The person who told me this suggested an Epoxy instead (not Epoxy Grout, but Epoxy). Is that my only alternative? Is there any kind of suitable caulking that can be used that will still adhere to a moist surface? I'm not interested in Grout, by the way; only caulking, because the seams still appear to move a little seasonally in the building. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated!
