How Do I Clean Unpolished Marble?

Question: I have a washstand with a marble top. I send it to a marble company to be refinished. They ground it down and said it was too thin to polish - it might break. I have had it for 20 years and now it needs a good cleaning. What do I use on unpolished open marble. Can it be cleaned and sealed some way? Thanks.
