Deck Damage

Question: I power wased my old pressure treated deck and now it is badly finished causeing lots of unwanted splinters ,I plan on resurfacing it using 5/4 decking boards so do i have to remove tne damaged 2 x 6's 0r can I go right over top of them the deck is 12 x 16

Answer: You can go right over the existing deck borads providing it does not change the height of any stairs that come up to the deck from below and it does lower the height of any guardrails to below code minimums...Ask your local code office for details.
