New Window For An Exterior Wall

Question: I want to install a new window into an exterior wall; however, the exterior is clad with aluminium siding. Is it acceptable to fram the opening from the inside, then cut the hole through the Al siding from the inside? I am used to removing the clap-boards from older houses, then installing the window and replacing the boards... thanks for any adivice...
