Question: I just read on another site that j-boxes are not Code for installation in ceilings. I have a cooktop exhuast vent which does not have room for me to locate a plug-in outlet within the confines of the exhaust assembly sleeve/ chimney, so I thought a good place for it would be on the ceiling. There is plenty of room in front of the vent pipe but behind the sleeve assembly. Am I not permitted to have an outlet there? Bobby

Answer: I don't see any reason you can't have a box in the ceiling. They put lights in the ceiling. You just can't have a box buried (inaccessible) in a wall/ceiling/whatever.
