Question: We tried to change the light fixture in the kitchen, We attached the black wires together, then the white wires together, then the coloured ( We made a mistake) then it blew a fuse. We unhooked the coloured wires and just left the black and white. The light worked but it will not shut off. We flicked the switched ( only one for that light ) but the light will not go off ??

Answer: What you probably have on your hands is a switch loop. Find the neutral wire, which should be white. The neutral wire is the wire that carries no voltage.Attach that wire to the light fixture only. The hot wire suppling the voltage gets attached to the white wire going to the light switch. The black wire coming from the light switch gets hooked up to the light fixture. When you mentioned coloured wires, where you talking about green ground wires. If you have other wires in this hookup write the color so we'll know. Also try to remember what you took apart, and put it back together the same way
