Question: We recently disconnected a ceiling fan. We were sitting on the floor and all of a sudden we heard a quiet "pop" come from one of the outlets on the wall. Everything that was plugged into that outlet lost power. Now the light in the ceiling nor the plug work. It did not trip the breaker. Any idea what this might be?

Answer: Sounds as if there was a loose connection at either the light or in the outlet. The poof sound would have been the arcing of the short. It is possible that the breaker is tripped and just not appear to be tripped. Push the breaker reset all the way to off then to on. If that doesn't work it could be that a wire connection has failed. somewhere in the circuit.

Answer: I will say Joe has the right idea ,with the breaker off remove the outlet and check it out yopu may see a broken wire and can replace it
