Title of Question:

Barbed Wire Fence Installation

Name: Cesar  City: Kingsville

Question: First timer. Need to install a pasture fence 1260 ft. long. Will use barbed wire and prefer six strands. Propose to install two corners with 3 poles each. Each pole will be 14" dia. 10 ft long. How deep should I go on the corner posts? I propose to use cedar posts in between about 4" dia., 8 ft. long. with some T-Posts. alternating them. Every how many feet should the cedar posts be and every how many feet should the T-Posts be? Soil is sandy. Gates, how wide and entrance and how long a gate can I install that would allow trailors to go through?

Answer: >>>Need to install a pasture fence 1260 ft. long. Will use barbed wire and prefer six strands. Propose to install two corners with 3 poles each. Each pole will be 14" dia. 10 ft long.<<< May I ask what in the world you need those dimensions for? You didn't much specify other than "pasture fence". IMO with the info given, you should go with the same cedar posts in between about 4" dia., but at 10 ft. long. At those measurements, you should dig down at least 3 1/2 feet. >>>Every how many feet should the cedar posts and every how many feet should the T-Posts be?<<< 10 feet apart, 1 t-post in the middle of that will do fine. >>>Gates, how wide and entrance and how long a gate can I install that would allow trailors to go through?<<< Depends really again on what type of trailors, do you mean big farm tractor trailors, or lawn mowers, trucks, that size? If the latter is the answer, then I would use no bigger then a 10 foot gate. I hope this gives you a bit of help:)
