Question: We have a house which was built in the early 70's. The existing floor is oak with a suspected shellac finish showing signs of wear. Two problems which need to be tackled which are black spots and a vinyl sheet was glued over the existing hardwood. Both of these problems would I would like to be fix?. First the former owner had carpet laid over the hardwood floors which now have black marks from either a liquid spill or pet urine. Second, a peice of vinyl was laid over a section of floor so as to protect the floor from discoloration from wet cloths and tracking from outside. The entire floor has hardwood flooring presently. The vinyl can be pulled up but how to treat the area sothat all flooring can sanded and re-finished?
