what to do with my bathroom

Question: I have a small bathroom in the middle of my house measuring 58 1/2 from door way to wall and 49 from wall to tub. The door way is a little under 2 ft wide. My question is the tub needs to come out because it is 30-34 years old and is starting to chip and rust. My husband says to chip a way at the tub and put in a shower. That would be fine, but the bathroom in the master bedroom is a 1/2 bath. I don't know what to do. please help
