Kenmore Freezer

Question: we have a side by side Kenmore fridge. a couple of weeks ago we noticed water under the fridge and then a block of ice at the bottom of the freezer. we cleared out the ice, checked the drain, it did not appear to be clogged - at least there was no ice over it. what could be causing this ice build up?
