Ruud Gas Heater Igniting

Question: The hot surface ignitor lights, stays on for a few seconds, clicks, then shuts off. Will not iginite burner. Is this an ignitor problem or a control modual or possible gas valve issue? The combustion fan is going when the HSI ignitor lights

Answer: Any number of things that can include: 1) a blocked chimney 2) a faulty spill switch 3) a blocked drip leg on the gas line 4) a bad thermocouple 5) a faulty pilot tube 6) a bad thermostat 7) a faulty automatic damper 8) A tripped flame throw out switch 9) Electronic malfunctions...... All add up to you need a professional to properly diagnose and repair.
