Attic Conversion

Question: When we built our house (2005), we had a 3rd car garage added. It was cross hipped onto the main section, and in order to make the ample attic space into a nice scrapbooking room for my wife, I need to remove part of 2 main section rafters that would provide the entrance to the hip. Is this going to hurt the strength of my roof? (The main section has a high slope, and the hip has normal slope.)
