Title of Question:

Can Doug Fir Be Stored Years Before Use?

Name: Sunny  City: Calpella, CA

Question: I am worried about escalating prices but don't intend to build until summer 2007...Can I buy all the wood now, or will it get too hard to nail?

Answer: You can keep lumber indefinitely but unless you can store it in an environment where you can control the moisture content, it could warp beyond practical use over time....Most lumber is kiln dried to 15% moisture content...And it will slowly re-acclimate to existing moisture levels over time.. This might not be an issue for you in dry California....But prices could actually go down by next year so buying now to save money can be a crap shoot at best.
