Cleaning A Very Old Marble Entrance Foyer

Question: I have a checkered, red and white, old marble entrance foyer..They are in front of the main entrance to my house. Although there is a carpet protecting it, it has not been cleaned an years I am sure. The house is 1878 and the foyer at least from the early 1900's . How do I clean this? There is a producet, KRUD, which worked very well on a brick entrance foyer...I am wondering about a more mild solution of that...also can I then seal the marble to protect it...thanks..
