Does A Sloped Attic Ceiling Need Venting?

Question: I want to finish off an attic storage area, and incorporate the very steep sloped roof as my interior wall/ceiling. Do I need any kind of ventilation or air gap between roof plywood and the insulation bats? And if so, does this mean I can't drywall all the way to the peak, and need a flat ceiling area? Thanks...
