Insulating Concrete Floor

Question: How do I go about insulating for an above slab concrete floor. This is an existing garage being converted to a family room.

Answer: First thing you must do before converting a garage floor to living space if to make sure the exissting concrete is sealed against moisture intrusion....Garage floors are not required to have a vapor barrier installled beneath them before being poured unlike basement floors...Without sealing the floor with a vapor barrier type paint or other type vapor barrier product, you will have continuing moisture problems in the new room....Insulation can be don with rigid foam between sleeper joists or batt insulation installed between standard joists.
