Sony Home Theather-Protected

Question: my 3 year old sony home theater receiver suddenly become silent and "protect" was displayed on the machine. I turned it off and turned it on after 1 day, still the same. I checked the on line manual, it said to check the wire. but which wire? it has power (the 'protect mode' still blinking). anybody has any idea ? Thanks.
