Refrigerator Thumping When Shutting Off

Question: My refrigerator has started making a loud thumping noise when it shuts off. It is so loud it wakes everyone all through the night. It hasn't been moved but was cleaned so I don't think it would be the fan being dirty or the pan out of place or uneven. What else might it be?
