Title of Question:

Leaking Patio Door

Name: JA Glover  City:

Question: The sliding patio door leaks in heavy rain storms or when water is sprayed at a certain angle. The water fills up the track and leaks into the house. We tried silicone gel at the edge of the sliding door but no luck. Wht can be done, there was no "weather stripping" type devise at the bottom so it may interfer with the tracking. Any suggestions?

Answer: The Patio Door must have orignally had weatherstripping installed. This has probably worn out. I have replaced the weather seals on the bottom of many patio doors. Sometime the weatherstrip is available and sometimes not. Your local glass shop should be able to give you a definite answer as to whether it can be fixed. Or if you can find a piece of the old worn out weatherseal on the bottom of the door you might be able to buy new from the glass shop and do it yourself.
