Question: am considering replacing 6' wooden patio doors. there is nothing wrong with the glass or wooden parts but am getting black material on carpet from bottom of doors. it appears to be coming from rollers or ?. in looking at the doors and installation cannot figure out how to replace metal "track" door rides on and how non-sliding door is attached. any help will be appreciated or referral to another web site. thanks, ralph seward pls answer to rseward@kc.rr.com

Answer: I watched when the glazer came out to replace the cracked thermal glass on my door (inside/fixed pane). He (with help) removed both patio doors panes. The stationary door was attached with only one large screw at the top interior frame. He unscrewed the door and two people using a pry bar and a very large screw driver pulled both glass doors frames up and out by lifting them over the track. I would have never thought to do this, nor would I attempt it because of the huge pieces of glass. He took the pieces to the back yard and proceeded to unscrew the frame from the glass, saving the gasket from all around to reuse.
I could only guess that rollers on the bottom of your door are cracked or worn. This has happened with our screen. One of the wheels wore out. Have you tried contacting the manufacturer? It may be very uncommon and cover by the manufacturer. Good luck.

Answer: It seems I mistakingly unscrewed the screws at the both bottom sides of my sliding patio door thinking that they were there to somehow hold the door in place. I did this becuase I thought of saving some money by replacing door seals (those brush like strips on the edges of most sliding door and seal the outside air from coming in). After doing this my door is almost jammed and extremelyy hard to slide open. It is a quite durable old door unlike todays light ones which I think I can slide open without the rollers even. Anyway after reading around I found that I might have freed the rollers below the door which were attched to the bottom of the sliding door by those crucial screws I unscrewed while experimenting on this door. Does anyone have experinec how to dismantle the sliding door, remove it and screw the rollers below it and then put it back. Frm my inspection I dont find any way this can be done except I need to pry open the moulding inside my room and do a amjor harm to inside of the room to fix it. The repair man without a avisal inspection is estimating it a 3 hrs job making me short of some 250 bucks. Any sugestion would be appreciated.
