Title of Question:

Replacing Ropes On Double-Hungs, Weights On Same Side!

Name: Jim Force  City:

Question: I have successfully replaced the ropes on double hung windows before, but now I'm faced with windows that have the weights on the same side. In other words, the right-hand rope-pulley-weight is conventional, but the left hand rope goes up, then across the top of the window and down the right side to a second weight. Do I have to disassemble the whole window frame to replace this rope?

Answer: Only in America would someone think this one up. You could try piggy backing a rope or gcord. Attach to original before withdrawing but ensure the coupling is firm as it has to go around a couple of pullies. Always keep it tight, once thru, attach new cord and pull back. Connect to window and weight as usual.
