deck wood knots fallingout

Question: I have a wood deck. the knots does have knots in it . now the know are falling throught leaving behing holes. is this cause by some pest? (bee,ants....) or is it eroded by water damage?

Answer: Sounds like natural drying rather than pests. You can plug the knot holes just as you would make plugs for fine furniture. Drill to a known diameter just larger than the knot hole. Make a plug out of similar wood just a whisper larger than drilled hole. Line up wood grain, use exterior carpenter's glue and tap plug into hole with rubber mallet. If any sticks up use a wide wood chisel to even it up and then sand for smoothness.
