French drains

Question: I just had a french drainage system installed to keep water away from my house. I also had the basement water proofed using aphalt and plastic sheeting. The excess dirt was spread around my yard and over grass. should the contrator had removed the excess dirt so thatmy yard maintained as much of its original look as possibe, within reason of course.

Answer: if your contractor used basement waterproofing and a plastic sheet drain, which it sounds like this is the case, there should not be much excess earth as there is not a need for gravel or trap rock. As a contractor, i use any extra dirt for finish grading to take surface water away from the foundation.
