Title of Question:

how to fix brick retaining wall

Name: lindeekj  City:

Question: Raised flower bed under front picture window - back side is the foundation of house, left side is the front porch steps, front and right side of bed are landscaping bricks approx 2 1/2' high. Problem being that the ground slightly slopes to the right. Bricks are level, but soil is not - so water drains to the right side and pours through some of the bricks. The side wall is also starting to bow. Front does not leak any water. I have packed sand into all of the crevices and am attempting to level out the soil. Is it the weight of the soil pushing side bricks outward? What can I do to stop this?

Answer: Perhaps the weight of both soiland water will effect the bricks. To help prevent, reduce the weight of materials inside the construction, plus, add strength to the walls by applying another course of bricks or blocks inside, allow some weep holes around the bottom to allow water to seep away.
