Question: The kitchen sink water is backing up into the dishwasher. Sometimes, there is a "glug-glug" noise in the vent that goes up thru the attic (probably has something to do with clog?). I have used a snake going thru the dishwasher pipe, over to the sink, and down the wall. No luck. The next step will be to go downstairs and open up the pipe (clean out?) on the basement floor. Any other ideas?

Answer: If your sink is not backing up and will drain, then the problem is in your dishwasher drain hose, not your sink drain. make sure that the hose to the dishwasher loops up toward the counter directly as it comes out of the dishwasher so that after the waste water is pushed up, it will drain DOWN into the sink drain. If the hose drains downhill into the dishwasher from the sink, the flow of water has no choice but to go into the dishwasher.
