Adhession Of Gunite

Question: I had a pool shot with gunite 2 weeks ago with 4 steps. The applicater did not consider the cantilevered deck (additional 3 1/2 to 4 inches of deck on top of the first step. Steps are set at 9 inches. The pool company has suggested adding to the steps. My question is this :Will gunite adhere to gunite at this stage? Will concrete adhere to gunite? I know that concrete does not bond well with concrete after the fact. I would welcome a response. Thanks Don
