De Powder Blowing Back Into Pool After Backwashing

Question: When I backwash my pool and then turn the gauge back to "filter", DE powder and small debris blow back into the pool through the returns. This causes a good amount of DE powder to constantly be settled on the floor of the pool. What could be causing this? I backwash and rinse for a sufficient length of time (I think)
