How Important Are Metal Bands Under A Oval Pool?

Question: We put up a used 15x30 oval pool self installed. All but two of the bands we rusted out. It also was about 2 inches off level in one corner. We lost all our water through a 10foot rip in the liner that started as a little hole we patched. After the water rushed out the pool is now more round and less oval. Should we trash it or try to just replace the liner and start over? (Sorry this is so long!)
