Pool Leak When Not Running

Question: I have determined that I am losing water when the pool is NOT running; therefore, it must be on the suction side. If I determine where the air is getting in and fix that, how will that stop the water loss? Or, will it? I can find no evidence of water leak around the equipment; however, will dig down around and beneath the incoming pipes. I'm losing 3/4" a day. Where is it going?
