Question: Hello and thank you for your help. I have a mansard roof, with a built up tar top. The mansard section was replaced in 2004, however the built up tar top was not replaced. The existing flashing was just reattached. During the winter I sustained heavy water intrusion along the perimeter of the entire second floor. The roofer did use mastic to repair the flashing area. Does this sound adequate? The built up portion has not been hot mopped for at least 9 or more years.

Answer: If the flashing you are talking about is above the mansard. You have problems. That flashing should not have been removed. Find a real roofing contractor.
2 years is about right for someone who did not know what they were doing.
