Roofing Ventilation

Question: Recently, I received a quote from a contractor who stated that I need ventilation for my new roof. I am getting a complete tear off. He is willing to install soffit vents and a ridge vent as I do not have any venting at all in my house. (I have a steep slope roof) As it turns out, I have a finished attic space, complete with radiator, windows etc. I was told by another contractor that if I was to ventilate this space, I will not be able to use it, the radiator would crack and the house house would be cold. during the winter. I searched the web and found that a new roof needs ventilation, but I could find nothing on a finished attic space. Can you help?
