Title of Question:

Storage Shed Roof

Name: Betty  City: Columbia,SC

Question: I had a new shed built couple of weeks ago and noticed there was no flashing or felt used under shingles and only two nails per shingle, with no overhang on building. The contractor says this is standard procedure for sheds. Is this correct? And should the shingles themselves be different thickness with what appears to be tar covering half the shingle below the tabs?

Answer: I build sheds ranging in size from 8x8 thru 16x24 for a living and the answer is ;NO. This is not standard procedure for shed construction. You should always follow the guidelines for proper installation that is printed on each package of shingles and always have at least a 1/4" overhang.
