Truss W Roof Framing

Question: I just read that an attic with a Truss "W" roof framing system cannot be altered or converted for living or storage. because the truss frame is pre-calculated for weight, ie, snow and ice on the roof. The attic/ceiling joists are 2x4s and are about 9 feet apart from the "W" truss framing. Can these 2x4s be enhanced with 2x6s so plywood sheets could be used as flooring for light storage??
