Water Under The Shingles?

Question: Recently, we replaced our soffits, fascia, and gutters. We noticed that there is now moisture on the brick under the soffits, where the soffits, fascia, and gutter meet the brick in front of our house. Our gutter guy told us that there was water under the shingles in that area. How can water get under the shingles? And is this condition causing water to run behind the soffits on to the brick wall?
