Cover Or Remove?

Question: the siding on our 17 year old mobile home has warped & rottened in places. it is some type of exterior wood/particle board composite. we are going to put on all new siding. do we need to remove all the other siding, or can we apply the new siding over the old? would you recommend vinyl, aluminum, or even metal siding for long term use. the mobile home is now is use as a work shop/tack room, so looks are not so important to us, just functionability. thanks!
