Vinyl Corner Post Cap

Question: I have a few corner posts which are on a second floor and the bottoms can be seen. The hollow area would be ugly if I didnt cap them. I have a template of the intricate shape. Does anyone have suggestions on which material to use and how to install? I thought about hardwood attached to the house and let the vinyl float over it instead of gluing or rivets into the vinyl corner post.
