Termites In Railroad Ties

Question: We have a slate patio about 20 feet away from the house that is lined with railroad ties. We are getting rid of it and when we lifted one, we found a bunch of white worker termites. How concerned should we be that they will make their way across the lawn and over to the house?

Answer: I'm no expert, but I've been told that termites like wet, rotting wood. As long as they have plenty to chew on outside, they won't invade the house.
