Barnboard Paneling

Question: I have barnboard paneling in my living area thatwas originally stained grey when we bought our home and a few years later we stained it a brown color.The expense of removing is and replacing it with dry wall is much to costly for us at the present time. Any ideas as to what I could do with it. I have looked at that paper that you put over paneling that absorbs the bumps and ridges and then you wallpaper over that, but I don't know if thats an option
