Cracked Plaster

Question: After removing old old wall paper, underneath it, the wall is cracking and has holes. The plaster is well over 150 yrs old and I know it has lime in it as it becomes "dusty" at times. I know there is some product I have to use to make the patch stick. Does anyone know what I am talking about? I have heard of a product called Link but am unsure of where to get it. The professional that did the work in the downstairs mentioned the word efflorescence as he was putting the product on the wall. Can someone make sense out of thsi for me? Thanks so Much!
