Title of Question:

Extreme Wallpaper Removal

Name: Shannon  City: Bartlett, TN

Question: We just moved into a 10 year old house and the sellers were the original owners. 3 rooms have been wallpapered and are outdated. We started in the kitchen and now have run into a speedbump. The question is on wallpaper removal. I have scored the walls, used 3 types of stripper and even a steamer and all that comes off is pieces smaller than a postage stamp and it is damaging the drywall. (all on a samll 2 foot section that i have worked on for more than 2 hours!!) It seems that the paper has fused itself to the drywall. With over 900 sq ft of wallpaper in the kitchen, im completely frustrated. I have heard of painting over wallpaper or should i try something else to remove the old wallpaper??

Answer: If practical for your situation, you can resurface the existing drywall right over the old...wallpaper and all....with new 1/4" drywall....It can be a cheaper and faster solution.

Answer: I am using a plastic hand help pump sprayer filled with water and Dawn dishwashing liquid and the paer is coming off. I first pulled all the paer I could by hand, then scored , applied DIF then sprayed the soapy water before scraping. I theink the DIF was a waste of time and money as the soap water works excellent.
