The holidays are coming and it’s tempting to want to tear out the kitchen, repaint the dining room and just go crazy sprucing up the house. But…seriously…what can you get done in three to four weeks? For the best results, focus on these 5 quick and easy remodeling projects. . . just don’t try all of them at once!

Remodeling with paint

The easiest remodeling project to tackle is painting. Consider:

  1. The dining room if you’ll be entertaining formal style
  2. The guest room if Aunt Martha is coming
  3. The foyer for a big pop for the neighbors

A painter may charge $200 to $400 per room based on the size and prep work, but painting also is easy to do yourself. Check out these tips on paint varieties, brush styles and more from Fine Homebuilding magazine.

Cabinet refacing boosts one room

With less than a month to go before the holidays, focus on one room and do it right. Try cabinet refacing as a quick kitchen remodeling; new floor tile and a furniture style sink in the powder room; or an updated fireplace surround in the family room.

Lighting boosts bathroom remodeling

A guest’s bathroom can come alive with a chandelier over the bathtub or old fashioned sconces flanking a new beveled mirror. Turn this out of the way spot into a hotel-like design suite.

Wood flooring in a few spots

Oak, cherry or Brazilian cherry wood flooring can make a dramatic statement in the foyer, as it’s the first area guest see. If your budget allows, carry it through to the hallways and kitchen.

Remodeling with accessories

New pillows, lamps, and area rugs can transform the entire first floor. Stick to two or three colors and use variations in the intensity in each room.

There’s plenty of time to do some easy kitchen remodeling or other updates before the holidays. Plan ahead and consider these quick fix remodeling projects to transform your space!

It is a great and satisfying experience to be able to complete a project on one’s own. However, it is important to understand your capabilities. Electrical or plumbing projects can be tricky and are best left to the professionals. Don’t be afraid to call a qualified contractor if you find yourself in over your head.
