‘Tis the season to dream of a bigger kitchen for holiday entertaining. If you avoided hosting the big family gathering because of your small kitchen, take heart. There are ways to turn this situation into a positive experience. As you ogle over everyone else’s kitchen, use the time to do some research.

Kitchen Remodeling: Start Your Research Now

What makes your sister’s kitchen fabulous? What do you like about your cousin’s new kitchen and family room combination? As you visit other kitchens, take note of:

  • The overall size and shape of the room–how does it flow?
  • The appliances–configuration and size
  • The island–does it work? Should your kitchen remodeling include one?
  • The floor plan in relation to the breakfast area and family room

Expanding Your Space for Entertaining

If you’re planning on expanding your space for entertaining, you’re not alone. Many people are driven to kitchen remodeling because they want larger digs for hosting friends, showing off their cooking finesse or sampling the latest wine collection. If you want this type of kitchen, think about:

  • Knocking down any walls near the kitchen that are not load bearing, says Homeportfolio.com. You’ll start with a large, open area.
  • Configuring the appliances for two cooks or one cook and one prep person. Just like in the restaurants!
  • Expanding your space to fit your entertainment style. If you like small, formal dinner parties, think about renovating the dining room as well as the kitchen. For large parties, combine the kitchen with the family room.

Holiday entertaining can be loads of fun, but it doesn’t hurt to add in some research work on your part. Narrow down your options now to get the most out of your kitchen remodeling.

We remodeled our kitchen and installed a 6 burner stove, which is awesome. It allows 2 people to cook at the same time and many more pots and pans can be use at once. Well worth the investment!
