Looking for a drill for the holidays? A new granite countertop? Which home improvement projects will make the grade in terms of boosting your home value? Try these on for size:

Try a Kitchen or Bathroom Faucet

Faucets are an inexpensive purchase that can really dress up a bathroom or kitchen. Try a high arching bathroom faucet or a pull out kitchen faucet with a sprayer. For $100 to $400, you’ll make a big splash.

Granite Countertops

Yes, it’s an investment ($2,500 to $5,000, depending on the quality of the stone and the size), but it can make a huge difference. Add some kitchen cabinet hardware and you’ll spruce up the whole room without having to do a major kitchen remodeling.

Curb appeal changes

If your climate allows, exterior painting, landscaping changes and perhaps a new front door will dramatically change your curb appeal. In colder climates, do what you can and put the rest on the priority list for spring. According to Realtor.org, exterior remodeling still provides a good bang for the buck.

Remodel with Paint and Brushes

Anytime you can do your own painting (and do it well), you’ll be ahead of the game cost wise. For $100 or so, you can totally transform a room and do it on your own schedule. Try this online paint calculator from Sherwin Williams to get you going. If you don’t have the patience or skills, however, leave it to a painting contractor. A bad paint job will really show.

DIY Remodeling Gifts

Everything from power tools to snap-on screwdrivers are sure to please the DIYer and help them save money on home improvement. Here’s a good list of remodeling products to try.

O.K. Your shopping list is made. Now, gather that list and go!

Wow, granite countertops would be a great x-mas gift…I just don’t think they will fit in my stocking. ;)

New faucets will make a big difference in changing the look of a kitchen or a bathroom. And without much expense. Better yet most faucets can be easily replaced, and DIY’ers can save potentially big. Great ideas.
