Wondering whether a master bedroom makeover is worth the investment? Here’s how to make it pay off.

The master bedroom has become the hub of luxury in many homes. If you’re struggling with a boring rectangular space, it’s time to find a contractor and shake up the room. Here’s how to change your master bedroom design on a budget:

  • Move the bed. Put it on a diagonal or tuck it in the corner. Try it for a few weeks and see what you think.
  • Add drama. Floor length drapes can provide a little drama with interesting fringe, unique fabric or an oversized valance on top.
  • Add a fireplace in a corner. There are lots of electric fireplaces that fit in small spaces without all the expense of adding a gas line and hiring a contractor. Just plug it in and turn it on.
  • Zoom in on lighting. Use it in a tray ceiling or to highlight a shelving unit or cozy fireplace area.
  • Add tall crown molding.

Here are some great master bedroom images from Zillow.com. Pay attention to your room size and shape when deciding on draperies, bed location and any rug layout. If you have lots of squares or rectangles, mix in a round rug or corner chair set.

I like a simple MBr, and don’t want a lot of bells and whistles in the bedroom. I prefer to spend my remodeling dollars on my kitchen.
