Want to remodel your house in a day? Well, not the whole house, of course, but a few key spots.

According to an article by Kiplinger magazine, there are plenty of quick fixes to brighten one or two key rooms. Get those sawzalls, painting brushes, and shovels ready. Here are some ideas:

  • Kitchen: For you kitchen backsplash, remove old tile and install new marble or travertine. (OK, maybe this is a two day project–one for removal and one for installation.)
  • Paint: Paint a room or do a faux finish on one wall–in a bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, or foyer. Here’s a good remodeling supply list for painting projects.
  • Bathroom: Try these bathroom remodeling ideas for a bathroom design makeover. The shower or tub switch can take a little longer, but adding a mirror is a few hours of shopping, then the installation.
  • Sink & Faucet: Try a stainless steel, cast iron, or copper sink. Sinks and faucets are easy projects for any plumbing contractor or handyman.
  • Landscaping: A walkway, new flowerbed, or soft mood lighting can do the trick. Look for a contractor who can draw out a plan for the whole yard–so you have continuity (and plenty of one day projects to keep you busy).

Your Remodeling Adventure

When planning a one or two day remodeling adventure, focus on projects that involve only one contractor. If you’ve got two contractors (electrician and carpenter), you know it’s a bigger job.

Walk around your house and find all the basic, boring, blah areas. Make a hit list and then do some research on which contractors to call and what supplies you need. Can you make a difference in one or two days? If so, get going!

Thanks for the remodeling ideas! Reinventing the bathroom is a project I look forward to doing to keep things fresh and alive especially around the holidays and summer.
